Mourning in the music world: Steve Bronski, co-founder and keyboardist of the band Bronski Beat, has died at the age of 61

Steve Bronski, the co-founder and keyboardist of the 1980s pop group Bronski Beat, has died at the age of 61, several British media reported Thursday.

Bronski, born Steve Forrest, originally from Glasgow, formed Bronski Beat in 1983 with singer Jimmy Somerville (who went on to form The Communards) and fellow musician Larry Steinbachek. The band later disbanded in 1995 before returning in 2016 with only Steve Bronski as the only original member.

Bronski Beat recorded a string of hits, some of which, like Smalltown Boy, Why?, Hit That Perfect Beat and I Feel Love, a Donna Summer cover, made the top 10 nationally.
